Ukraine’s flourishing trade in agricultural exports to India looks set to gain further momentum with news that India’s Biosecurity Agency has given the green light to open up domestic Indian markets to Ukrainian apples. India is already the number one international destination for Ukrainian agricultural exports, accounting for USD 1.3 billion in the first eight months of 2018, or more than 10% of Ukraine’s total global agribusiness exports.

The addition of apples to the list of Ukrainian agricultural exports to India will boost this total further while serving to replace Russia, which was previously the primary market for Ukrainian apple exports. Industry experts expect the emergence of India as a new apple export market will also drive the development of improved maritime storage technologies.
