Low-cost airline Wizz Air has reported a 145% jump in Ukrainian passenger numbers during the 1 June – 1 September summer peak season. The airline carried 450,000 Ukrainian passengers over the period. Wizz Air currently flies from Ukrainian cities Kyiv, Lviv and Kharkiv to 42 destinations in 12 countries. The most popular summer 2018 destinations from Kyiv in terms of passenger numbers included Budapest, Frankfurt, Dortmund, Warsaw and Copenhagen.
Ukraine’s air travel industry is currently experiencing unprecedented expansion with record passenger numbers and expanding flight services. Wizz Air entered the Ukrainian market in 2008. The Hungary-based low-coster recently announced plans for further expansion in Ukraine, with new flights to the UK, Latvia, Germany and Denmark.
