Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the regional subsidiary of France’s Veolia Group as part of efforts to transform the way the Ukrainian capital handles waste management issues.

The agreement envisages the installation of 3,000 containers throughout the city for plastic and glass waste, with further plans to construct a waste recycling complex with an annual capacity of 700,000 tons as Kyiv moves away from the landfill approach to waste management and adopts more ecologically sustainable recycling approaches.

Pilot projects on the separate collection of municipal waste items are set to begin at a number of Kyiv locations in July 2019.
