One of Ukraine’s largest multinational presences is about to get larger. PepsiCo Ukraine has begun work on the local production of the company’s Lay’s potato chips at the PepsiCo Ukraine plant in Mykolaiv. The production line is due to enter into operation by the middle of 2019.
The switch to local production will involve sourcing potatoes in southern Ukraine, with annual demand estimated at 40,000 to 60,000 tons. To meet this demand, PepsiCo Ukraine plans to introduce an agricultural program providing local farmers with training as well as access to the necessary seeds.
At present, PepsiCo produces Lay’s potato chips in Poland.
