Ukraine has continued the country’s steady post-2014 progress in international economic rankings by rising six places in the latest Global Competitiveness Report released in October. Ukraine occupied eighty-third position out of the one hundred and forty nations featured in the 2018 version of the annual ranking, up from eighty-ninth position one year ago.
Ukraine recorded improved scores in every single section of the World Economic Forum ranking except for business dynamism. The country’s highest position within the overall ranking came in the “skills” segment of the Human Capital component, where Ukraine placed forty-sixth internationally thanks in part to the strong Ukrainian higher education sector and a technically skilled labor force. Meanwhile, Ukraine ranked fifty-seventh for infrastructure and fifty-eighth for innovation capacity.
