Ukraine International Airlines has reported annual passenger growth of around 70% in 2021 as the Ukrainian travel industry continues to revive following the negative impact of the Covid crisis. The country’s main carrier serviced approximately 3.2 million passengers during the past year compared to just 1.8 million people in 2020.
This annual total is still significantly short of the record high reached in 2019, when the airline carried around 8 million passengers. The travel industry has been particularly hard-hit by the pandemic, with airlines suffering as countries introduced draconian restrictions on all international travel.
The encouraging Ukraine International Airlines passenger figures for 2021 are an indication that the industry is now entering into what is likely to be an extended recovery period. UIA CEO Yevhen Dykhne has stated that the airline anticipates a positive overall financial result for 2021, having posted a profit of USD 15 million for the first ten months of the year.
