By the end of the current calendar year, Ukraine should have established itself as one of the world’s top ten exporters of dairy products, according to First Deputy Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Maksym Martyniuk.
The forecast, based on preliminary export figures for 2018, reflects growing milking rates and animal productivity. Ukraine’s dairy export industry has benefitted in recent years from the advent of a free trade agreement with the European Union, leading to growing exports to EU countries.
Ukraine is also emerging as an attractive base for multinational dairy production for export. French dairy giant Danone recently began exporting Ukraine-produced yoghurts to Poland as the first step in plans to export from the company’s southern Ukraine plant to EU markets.
