As Ukraine’s economy continues to grow, Ukrainians are spending more. Ukrainian retail sales rose by 5.5% between January and September 2018 with Kyiv, Dnipro and Kharkiv taking the top three positions nationwide in terms of sales volumes. Meanwhile, the biggest gains came in the Ukrainian government-controlled part of Luhansk region, which saw a leap in retail sales of 27.9%.
Ukraine’s steadily improving retail stats are attracting a growing number of international brands to the country. In October, Swedish clothing retailer H&M opened its second Kyiv store just months after the company’s Ukrainian debut. Other retailers entering or returning to the Ukrainian market in 2018 include Under Armor, Zara Home and Hugo Boss. The country’s first IKEA store is due to open in Kyiv in spring 2019.
