Early April saw leading figures from Ukraine’s industrial engineering and machine-building industries gather in Kharkiv for the annual Machine-Building and Engineering Industry Forum. A host of senior state officials were also in attendance including representatives from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the State Property Fund of Ukraine, the Parliamentary Committee on Industrial Policy, and representatives of regional authorities including Kharkiv regional state administration head Yulia Svitlychna.

Speakers from many of Ukraine’s most prominent machine-building enterprises and associated industries featured on the agenda including the Kharkiv Tractor Factory, Antonov Plant, Kryukovsky Wagon Works, Siemens Ukraine, Ukroboronprom, Turboatom, Yuzhmash, Motor Sych, Zarya-Mashproekt, Corum Group and many more.

The Forum was opened by Kharkiv regional administration deputy governor Mark Becker. The deputy governor drew attention to the efforts of Kharkiv Tractor Factory owner Oleksandr Yaroslavsky, pointing out that under his ownership, the previously idle plant had recently returned to production with an output of 700 tractors in 2017. Also speaking at the Forum, Kharkiv Tractor Factory general director Andriy Koval outlined plans for further developments at the plant in 2018-19, including renewal of equipment, modernization of production facilities and product improvements based on the latest consumer preferences.

Yaroslavsky’s DCH Group is currently one of the largest and most dynamically developing Ukrainian business groups in the country with investments in a range of industries. Priority spheres of activity include finance, heavy industry, transport, construction materials, hospitality, and infrastructure. In the past twelve months, Yaroslavsky has acquired the Sukha Balka mine in the city of Kryviy Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and the Dnipropetrovsk Iron and Steel Works, a leading producer of pig iron, steel and rolled products in Ukraine.

DCH founder and president Yaroslavsky is one of Ukraine’s most prominent business personalities with investments in the Ukrainian economy totaling more than USD 1 billion. He remains perhaps best known for investing more than USD 300 million into Kharkiv’s preparations to serve as a host city during the Euro 2012 football championships.
