Kharkiv high society flocked to the city’s Premier Palace Hotel as winter arrived in eastern Ukraine in order to celebrate the thirtieth birthday of local magnate Oleksandr Yaroslavsky’s wife Marina. The glitzy affair attracted hundreds of VIP well-wishers and dignitaries with the couple’s three children and extended family also in attendance.
The theme of the night was white tulips with guests encouraged to adopt a suitably white dress code, but birthday girl Marina shunned this trend by dazzling in a full-length dress of sparkling grey-gold. The former model and beauty queen told 1+1 TV channel’s legendary high life correspondent Kateryna Osadcha that she was now considering returning to her education. “I’d like to complete a second university degree in a subject with practical real-life application like economics,” she told the seasoned reporter.
The party featured an extensive show program with Ukrainian pop star Olya Polyakova as the star attraction. However, after Polyakova’s performance there was an additional surprise for birthday girl Marina – an appearance by one of her favorite international artists, dreamy Moldovan crooner Dan Balan! The Moldovan singer, who is now based out of London, flew into Kharkiv especially for the birthday celebrations. He was joined on stage by Marina as he blasted out his most popular ballads. Balan offered congratulations to the happy couple and expressed his pleasure at returning once more to Ukraine – a country where he performs regular and which he says is like a home from home.
